Coromandel is a different kind of wellsite geological consulting company.
Since our inception in 1986 our two managing partners, Steve Perry and Jamie Gilkison have focused on building a core of very competent and skilled well site geologists and technologists. Rather than uncontrolled growth we have capped our size and have concentrated on quality.
We have embraced new technology as it has come along, particularly horizontal drilling.
We fervently believe in good teamwork and strong communication.
We take nothing for granted at the well site, always checking and evaluating the data as it comes in and communicating as necessary with the directional and rig personnel and with the client. Every survey is considered as it is taken, samples are examined as they are caught and appropriate corrections are made in a proactive way rather than waiting until urgent action is required. All of our personnel have a solid understanding of directional drilling.
We take our training very seriously; recruits undergo a lengthy training period mostly on the well site before they sit their first horizontal as a second man under the close supervision of the lead hand. We try never to put our people in a situation they are not ready for and Steve and Jamie are always available to give advice when necessary.
Our personnel tend to stay with Coromandel; indeed some have been with us over 20 years. Some of our young geologists make the transition to the office where, almost inevitably, Coromandel becomes their well site company of choice.
We are, of course, very safety conscious and have never had a work injury. Driving is by far the most dangerous part of our job and we advise all our personnel not to take chances, to plan ahead particularly with respect to weather and road conditions, and not to drive tired or distracted.
